Shalyn's Gentle-Flow and Universal Freestyle Yoga- These classes exlpore the many levels of each pose, to accommodate the individual needs of each person
participating.
This class helps you become aware of the ability to control the
sensations in the body with breath and energy points, while both
heating and cooling the body in a
flowing series of active and passive poses. Universal Freestyle is an Andrey Lappa, cross-mat style creation. New Class, Power Flow Yoga, Fridays 9am.
All-level asanas sequenced in a context to challenge and heat the body, helping each pose to stregnthen within the student's overall practice. We
will work to ignite the puri"fire" (agni), the strong internal heat created by pressure and holds within the physical practice, and with room to create and
build sequence, we will also have a great time. Feel free to polish it up if you like!
Maggie Hopson-
Maggie has been a registered yoga teacher since 2001 having completed her training with Integrated Yoga Therapeutics. As a physical therapist she became interested in integrating Yoga practices with Western Medicine. Her focus is on teaching classes that include all aspects of a yoga practice, meditation, pranayama, asana and relaxation techniques. Her background in physical therapy is helpful in promoting correct anatomical alignment during the asana practice making this yoga practice one of healing and not harming. Maggie is also certified in thaiyoga bodywork.
Gentle flow yoga- Participants need to be comfortable with transitioning from floor to standing. Modifications will be given for students new to the practice. Class begins with a centering meditation and then moves on to pranayama, breath expansion. Attention is always given to “warming up” the spine and shoulders/hips prior to moving into the flow. The flow includes standing poses, sun salutations and balance work. The class ends with a 10 minute savasana (guided relaxation).
Yin Yoga- A class that will include longer, more passive holding of specific yoga poses. All the poses are done on the ground with use of props to help you relax into the poses. Poses are held for 3-5 minutes with focus on the breath to assist in deepening the stretches with time. Yin targets the connective tissue around joints, while a more traditional yoga practice, yang, addresses the muscle system. This class can be deeply opening if you choose, or simply a more restorative practice.
